Book Review of ‘The Gorilla Man and the Empress of Steak,’ by Randy Fertel

Winner of the 2011 Sharp Writ Book Award in the Autobiography/Memoirs Category

There is much to like about The Gorilla Man and the Empress of Steak. It was a very enjoyable read, and it captured us in all its facets. The stories in the book offer an inside peek into the heart of New Orleans, an iconic symbol of American cuisine. We learned the colorful true story behind a famous steakhouse. This book is quite meaty (pun intended).

The author and editor have done well at reaching balance in a many-layered work, creating for their final product an extremely well-written and brutally honest memoir.
